International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics partnership

Our partnership with the International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics is formalised with a Memorandum of Understanding. The purpose of the co-operation is:
•Whereas the Parties manifest their support to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities,
•Whereas the Parties recognize the importance of collaboration and believe that expansion and development of the cooperation between the two organizations will contribute to a better world for persons with disability,
•Whereas the Parties acknowledge that cooperation aiming at the improvement of the quality of life for persons with disability will bring mutual benefits towards the accomplishment of the mission of both Parties.

The International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics (ISPO) is a global multidisciplinary organization aiming to improve the quality of life for persons who may benefit from prosthetic, orthotic, mobility and assistive devices by:

• Ensuring quality care and education of professionals for the benefit of patients around the world;
• Promoting research and evidence-based practice;
• Facilitating innovative and appropriate technology development;
• Promoting international collaboration and consensus building; and
• Fostering exchange, high-quality knowledge and networking.

Its members are prosthetists and orthotists, prosthetic and orthotic (P&O) technicians, orthopaedic surgeons, rehabilitation doctors, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, orthopaedic shoemakers, nurses and biomechanical/rehabilitation engineers.

For 45 years, ISPO has provided an effective platform for the exchange and communication on all aspects of the science, practice and education associated with the provision of prosthetic and orthotic care, rehabilitation engineering and related areas.
